Algatek Karbon Nusantara Partners with PLN EMI to Develop Carbon Credit Project in Indonesia

Jakarta, July 21, 2026 — PT Algatek Karbon Nusantara (AKN) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Energy Management Indonesia (EMI), a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero), to develop a carbon credit project through the conversion of CO2 emissions from biomass industries into value-added products. This partnership marks a strategic step for Algatek in supporting national decarbonization targets while opening access to the global carbon market.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Eunike Kartika Salduna, Director of Algatek Karbon Nusantara, and Henri Firdaus, President Director of PT Energy Management Indonesia, during the opening ceremony of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES) 2026 at the Jakarta Convention Center. PLN EMI is a subsidiary of PLN engaged in end-to-end national energy conversion, conservation, efficiency, and management, making this collaboration an opportunity to integrate Algatek’s carbon capture solutions with the broader operational needs of PLN Group.

The scope of the collaboration covers four main areas. First, the implementation of technology feasibility studies, encompassing technical, commercial, and regulatory compliance aspects. Second, the development of a managed service business model that can be integrated with the operational needs of PT PLN (Persero) and carbon market mechanisms. Third, the development of Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) methodology in accordance with international standards, including the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Verra, and the GHG Protocol, to ensure the results of this collaboration are recognized both nationally and globally. Fourth, ongoing technical assistance and consultation throughout project implementation, including support for the certification, validation, and registration process of carbon credits.

This project is designed to deliver a solution for processing CO2 emissions from biomass industries into value-added derivative products, while ensuring the results of this collaboration are recognized within the carbon trading system, both nationally and internationally. This MoU is valid for two years, with the potential to be followed up through a definitive cooperation agreement once the initial assessment process is completed.

This collaboration with PLN EMI adds to Algatek’s ongoing efforts to expand strategic partnerships in the energy and environmental sectors, in line with efforts to drive the adoption of applicable carbon capture and utilization technology for industries in Indonesia.
